Credo: R2W 2025

Return to Wittenberg's ninth annual conference, Credo, celebrated the septendecimcentennial (1700th anniversary!) of the Nicene Creed. Convened by the Roman Emperor St. Constantine the Great and attended by over 200 bishops (traditionally 318), the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea famously dealt a decisive blow against the heresy of Arianism, most notably in the production of the prototype of the Nicene Creed confessed by all Christian Churches today. The stalwart defense of the faith at Nicaea had manifold implications for the Church of 2025.
Our keynote presenters were WELS Pastors Erik Alair and Benjamin Phelps and WELS Teacher Joshua Nelson. We are thankful for everyone who joined us to enjoy a weekend of spiritual edification, authentic Lutheran worship, and fellowship with Christians from throughout the WELS and ELS.

Pre-Conference Seminar
An academic seminar is a small-group session that convenes over a series of recurring meetings to really focus on a particular subject. In a seminar, everyone participates in discussion to share insights and ideas around the topic, rather than a lecture format.
Seminar attendees had an opportunity to get into the meat of our conference theme through intensive reading and discussion of texts related to our conference theme. In 2025, we considered the "Credo" theme in four main sessions focused on readings from: the Bible, the Fathers, the Liturgy, and literature. We invite you to join us next year before the formal conference starts for our next annual Seminar!
Reading materials are sent out in advance for you to read ahead to get the most out of our discussions.
Seminar registration is limited; first-come, first served! Make sure you secure your spot by signing up early. The Seminar will take place from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon. Registration will include meals. We will also pray the Divine Office together. It is an edifying experience.

Returning in 2025: Worship Workshop & Hoenecke Scholarship
One of the highlights of R2W is our worship. But many Pastors (and not a few laymen!) have asked: How can I take this home with me? Our Kantor, Dr. Daniel Baker, was here to answer that question and more at a worship workshop, which kicked off our plenary Conference on Friday afternoon! Although this session was geared toward those who are involved with leading, planning, and serving in worship, anyone was welcome to attend, and several laymen did. The session focused on how to best use our Synodical worship resources (the Christian Worship suite) to create a rhythm of Biblical worship in the pattern of our Lutheran forefathers.
The Adolf Hoenecke Scholarship Fund also returned in 2025. Thanks to a generous donation, we are pleased to offer FREE ATTENDANCE to any WELS or ELS Seminary students. The fund also supplements any pastor whose congregation is unable to support their attendance due to small size or reasonable budgetary issues.
